It did not say you needed a degree in computing to do so. WD touted this Product as an easy way to share media over a LAN.

Would you expect to have to program a DVD player with some low level code before you could watch a film? Of course not.

It is not incumbent upon me to understand how DLNA or any other so-called PNP technology works, but for that technology to work seamlessly and transparently without my even being aware of it.Īlthough I have been a power user of IT for more than two decades, I would never knowingly choose a product that required such a ridiculous level of manual intervention to get it to do what any non-expert consumer would expert such a product to do, out of the box. Well, I appreciate you taking the trouble to reply, but I have to say your comments are patronising to the point of rudeness. Only then will you have enough understanding so your music files are presented in track order for playing. I assume by now you are good and confused, so you need to google and find out the differences between media server/DLNA and Windows (network) shares (Samba). Telltale signs that one is arranged for DLNA and the other is arranged by shared folders like on a PC. If I look in Network shares for the NAS I see folders arranged as they are named in the NAS, and just like Widows arranges them. These are NOT folders on my NAS it is the media server in the NAS arranging them for DLNA delivery. In Media server I see three folders for music, photos and videos.

Note that I see both my WD NAS and PC under both groups, but if I go into either I see the contents are categorized differently. If I look in Network shares group, I see My WD NAS and my PC and any other devices shared (via Windows) on my network. So, when I am looking in the main menu of the media my WDTV can play, if I look under the media server group, I see my WD NAS, the Plex server on the NAS and my Win PC. If you have a WDTV media player, this is all demonstrated by two ways of it presenting music/media files one is called “Media servers” (DLNA) and the other is called “Nework shares”.(Samba) The one advantage for using DLNA is that this format can read and play from Playlists and SAMBA can not.
I do not have the issue you have, because I always know how my music is presented and most always I choose it via SAMBA. Some DLNA receiving devices can arrange music in both formats, others can’t. DLNA serves up music files in alpha order and SAMBA shares serve music files up in track order (as they appear in the Windows File Explorer.). This is NOT a firmware issue at all.Īll these terms describe how the music files are presented to your music-playing devices. Your MLB is NOT the culprit! And, for someone at WD to say the issue would be addressed in a firmware updated means they do not understand the situation either. You obviously do not understand the unique differences between DLNA (aka UPnP) and SAMBA or SMB (aka WIndows (or Network shares, or you would not be laying blame on your MLB. Has anything happened in the intervening years to give us hope, or must we accept that MBLD is not fit for purpose as a music server? I have 2,500 MP3 tracks on my MBLD and there’s no way I am going to start tweaking tags and other info manually, just to get the drive to do what it should have done from day one anyway. There seem to be some creative but very technical solutions to the problem that involve a lot of manual intervention. This problem seems to go back to at least 2012 - some five years. This seems to have worked, but I was disappointed to find that tracks are still being served up in alphabetical order, most of the time. I have just ‘upgraded’ my QED Uplay Stream to a Yamaha WXAD10 to try and eliminate wi-fi dropouts.

I can see from numerous threads that this problem has been going on for years, as well as assurances from WD mods that it would be addressed in a firmware upgrade, yet here we are, at the end of 2017 and the problem still exists. it!
